Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-03
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies Anotas.online uses, and how you can control them. We use as few cookies as possible: one for our own preference storage, and a handful set by Google AdSense on public pages only. The note-creation, note-locked, and note-reading pages run with the minimum browser storage needed to function.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by a website. Cookies are used to remember preferences (such as your language), keep you signed in to services that require it, measure how many people visit a site, and — when set by ad networks — personalize ads. Cookies set by anotas.online itself are called "first-party" cookies; cookies set by other domains loaded by our pages (like Google AdSense) are "third-party" cookies.
2. Cookies we use
Strictly necessary (first-party)
Used for the core function of the site, such as remembering the language you selected (English or Spanish). These are stored in your browser's local storage rather than as traditional cookies, but they serve the same purpose. The site works without them but you will see the default language each time you visit.
Preferences (first-party)
Remember your settings such as the chosen language. We use one preference key: "anotas-lang". It is stored locally in your browser and never sent to our servers.
Advertising (third-party, public pages only)
On public pages (homepage, blog, About/Contact/Privacy/Cookies pages) we display ads via Google AdSense. Google may set cookies such as __gads, __gpi, or others to show relevant ads, frequency-cap repeat impressions, and measure ad performance. These cookies are set by Google's domains, not by anotas.online. They are NEVER loaded on the note-creation, note-locked, or note-reading pages.
3. Detailed cookie list
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| anotas-lang | Anotas.online (first-party) | Remember selected language (en/es) | Until you clear browser storage |
| __gads | Google (third-party) | AdSense ad delivery and limits | 13 months |
| __gpi | Google (third-party) | Personalize ads (where permitted) | 13 months |
| NID | Google (third-party) | User preferences for Google services | 6 months |
4. Controlling cookies
Most browsers let you block, delete, or be notified when cookies are placed. You can also use private/incognito mode, which clears cookies when the window is closed. Blocking ad cookies will not break the site or prevent any note functionality. Disabling all cookies and local storage may prevent the site from remembering your preferred language between visits. For the AdSense cookies specifically, you can also opt out at https://adssettings.google.com.
